This is a common practice in the points ecosystem. For example. United Points can be used on Mariott properties. When this happens, United gets paid for the points used.

Home Swapping
-
Home swapping, also called home exchange, allows individuals to stay in each other’s homes without paying for rentals.
-
Check out our full process here.
-
A member may ask to swap with you, but you are not obligated to say yes. You can accept/reject/propose a new swap arrangement for each request that you get. That being said, you have to offer up your home once before you can stay in other homes in a non-reciprocal exchange.
-
Swaps don’t always need to take place at the same time. Some of our members have multiple homes and are open to non-simultaneous swaps. That means you can stay in their home without them staying in your home, and visa-versa. But, we don’t allow any member to use other member’s homes more than 2 times without sharing their home.
-
There are no specific duration rules for exchanging homes. Exchange periods are determined based on availability and desirability for the trip. You and another member will negotiate the time period and dates yourself.
-
Once you sign up and submit a video, we learn more about you and your home to determine if 48 dots is a mutual fit! We know our community well, so will make sure that you are likely to make a swap with a group of people that have equitable homes listed on our site. Each home may not have the same number of bedrooms or bathrooms, but they will all be of similar quality.
-
If a circumstance arises and either member has to cancel or go home earlier than expected, just contact us and we’ll try to sort things out smoothly by arranging another swap.
If a member claims damage or misuse of their property, 48 dots will investigate the issue and pay up to $250 in damages. Please make sure to take timestamped pictures before and after your guest leaves.
-
