The rules.
Home swapping is a great way to see the world but to do it in a trusted and safe community, there’s gotta be a few rules. Below are the48dots rules. It’s what our system uses to automatically allow or disallow swaps.
Core rules
Every member must be verified before a swap is finalized.
You must share your home for your first transaction by either having a simultaneous swap or non-simultaneous trade. Meaning, you can either exchange homes at the same time or at different times. Swapping homes is totally free.
If you opt for non-simultaneous trades, you are also able to stay in other members’ homes by having non-reciprocal stays. That means you can stay in any member’s home on our platform without them staying at your home.
You can’t stay in other people’s homes more than 2 times before you have to share your own home. Meaning, if you have 2 non-simultaneous trades that haven’t resulted in the other member staying in your home you can’t keep staying in other homes until your home is shared. You get no more than 2 non-reciprocal stays before you have to offer your home simultaneously
If you are disrespectful to the community or reported by another member for valid wrong-doing, you can no longer be a member of our platform, much-less swap.
Checkin is at 4:00 and checkout is at 11:30 as the default, regardless of if you do a home exchange or book vacation rentals with points.

Rule 1 one is for trust and safety. We require each member to go through video user vetting and other background checks so that we can manually approve the member.
Rules 2- 4 are to ensure equitable swapping on the platform. There are a few other home exchange sites that have points systems. We consciously chose not to because after talking to so many of you we heard too many stories of points not being useful to ‘cash in’ on. So, we just cut them out of the equation and let our machine keep things fair for us.
And the last…well if you have to ask… :)
