What kind of nomad are you?

We were curious: how many people that break into the digital nomad lifestyle actually have a home? Do they leave it all behind and hit the road? So we asked.

48%

of nomads keep their homes while traveling

It wasn’t a surprise that a large percentage of people that travel for just a season or for a specific purpose kept their home base. We’d expect that. But, what’s interesting is that these individuals still consider themselves nomads. The whole definition of a nomadic lifestyle is changing.

Gone are the days when a nomad leaves it all behind, packs a suitcase, and hits the road. That’s because the new nomad is a bit more decerning. While they don’t value possessions as much as they did pre-covid when it was all about showing off successes after the corporate climb or bragging about hitting a home run with the unicorn startup, they still value a certain lifestyle. Their homes still have a comfort they are used to, and they aren’t ready to give it up to go from one short-term rental to another for perpetuity.

The problem then becomes: how do the new digital nomads get the lifestyle they are used to on the road? How do they make sure the home they come back to is preserved? Yea, you got it. They join our community.

At 48 dots we group cohorts of people together to continuously swap homes.
